Gel polish aftercare
With the right care, your nails should last flawlessly for at least 14 days. Here’s how to keep them looking their best.
Protect your polish
- Wear gloves for household cleaning, gardening or handling harsh chemicals — gel polish can be damaged by rough activities and solvents.
- Try not to use your nails as tools for opening or picking at things.
If you notice chipping or lifting
Please don’t pick at the area — that can pull layers of your natural nail away with the gel. Get in touch on 07921 394 704 so we can assess it. Repairs are free within 7 days; after that a small charge applies.
On holiday
- Be careful with sun tan oils and insect repellents — many contain solvents that can damage the gel coating. Wash and dry your hands after applying them.
- Chlorinated water combined with sunshine can fade some colours. Dry your hands thoroughly after swimming and before sunbathing to minimise fading.
Keep nails moisturised
Apply cuticle oil twice a day — especially before bedtime — to keep the nail and surrounding skin nourished and flexible.
Changing colours at home
You can apply ordinary nail enamel over gel polish for a temporary change, but always use an acetone-free remover to take it off between appointments — acetone will break down the gel.
Removal: please have gel professionally removed rather than peeling it off at home, which can damage the nail surface. Fortnightly or three-weekly maintenance appointments keep your nails in perfect condition.
