Aftercare advice

Massage aftercare

A few simple habits after your treatment will help you carry that deep relaxation into the rest of your week.

Drink plenty of water

Water helps your body flush out the toxins released during treatment and counteracts the dehydrating warmth of the massage room. Keep sipping throughout the day.

Stay relaxed

Keep your mind and body calm for the rest of the day — listen to peaceful music, meditate, read a book or practise slow, deep breathing.

Skip caffeine and alcohol

Avoid both for around 12 hours after your massage. They dehydrate you and interfere with the elimination of toxins your massage has just released.

Go easy on exercise

Avoid strenuous exercise for 12–24 hours, but do keep gently moving: light stretches (hold each for about 30 seconds) and the occasional short walk help your muscles settle into their new, relaxed state.

Mind your posture

With your muscles relaxed, it’s the perfect time to practise good posture and break the tension habits that caused the knots in the first place.

Eat lightly

Choose nutritious, light meals rather than heavy or processed food to keep that post-massage wellness feeling going.

Feeling a little sore? Mild soreness, a light headache or needing the loo more often are all normal responses. Hydration, an ice pack or a warm bath will help. If anything persists, contact your therapist or doctor.

Book your next appointment

Booking your next massage before the relaxed feeling fades is the best way to make wellbeing a habit rather than a treat.
